Kingston Baroque Consort 2023-2024

We are excited to announce the third season of Kingston’s own orchestra devoted wholly to historically-informed practice of music from the Baroque era!

Our 2023-2024 Season will feature 4 Friday in-person concerts featuring your Baroque favourites with exciting guest performers and a special ‘extra’ performance with the Dan School Faculty Artist Series on September 24!

We begin with a Baroque Festival of Music, Art and Dance:

October 6, 2023 – 5:15 pm Concert – Enchanted Steps
The Kingston Baroque Consort present dance music by Charpentier, Telemann and Purcell with
Special guest: violinist, Christina Zacharias of Tafelmusik

October 7, 10am – noon Workshop: Baroque Performance practice for instrumentalists with Christina Zacharias

October 14, 1:30-2:30pm Workshop: Baroque dance steps with Edgar Tumak
St. James, Clarence Hale Room

October 14, 3-4pm Lecture: Louis XIV, Versailles, the King of Siam, and Ballet-Opera Diplomacy in the 17th Century with Gauvin Bailey
Stauffer Library, Queen’s University

November 10, 2023 Baroque Passions: Heartbreak and Tenderness 
Spellbinding music by Telemann, Steffani, Locatelli and Hasse

February 2, 2024 The Enchanted Garden: – music inspired by Nature

April 5, 2024 Celebration! Dazzling Baroque Showpieces
Bach’s Orchestral Suite No.1 and Mouret’s Symphonies de Fanfares

Upcoming production: Baroque celebration! Bach and friends

The final of four concerts in the Kingston Baroque Consort’s second season showcases works by J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Joachim Quantz and features Bach’s famous Orchestral Suite number 3 in D major.

Concert time is 5:15pm, Friday March 10, at St. James’ Anglican Church, 10 Union Street

The KBC is Kingston’s newest orchestra devoted wholly to Historically Informed practice of music from the Baroque era. Founded by Katie Legere, Jeff Hamacher, Julia McFarlane, and Michael Capon, the KBC is a collective of professional musicians drawn from the Kingston Symphony Orchestra and the wider community.

Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme tells the story of middle class Mr. Jourdain who dreams of becoming a gentleman, with comedic results. This concert production features the full KBC ensemble, with special guests Edgar Tumak and Debra Donaldson (Baroque dancers), and Craig Walker (narration)
